Lu
Yan’s speciality styles are the main Wushu competition styles, including Chang
Quan, Jian, Qiang, Dao, Gun, Nan Quan, Nan Dao and Nan Gun.
Alongside these she teaches San Jie Gun, Jiu Jie Bian, Shuang Jian, Shuang Dao
and Shuang Bian. She can also teach a variety of other styles like Cha Quan,
Tong Bei, Fanzi Quan, Zui Quan or Ditang.
She is an accomplished Taiji practitioner, having been taught by both
Men Huifeng and
Kan Guixiang. She prefers to
teach the Competition 42 and 24 step routines along with the more demanding Chen
style.
She has also been taught Bagua by two of China’s most renowned masters,
Liu Jingru and
Sun Zhijun.
If Lu Yan is not available for your trip then we may well be able to arrange a
different coach for you. This coach will most likely also have been a former
Chinese Champion, or regarded as an expert in the style that you want to train.
We prefer to run classes in the morning but can also hold them in the evening if required. Morning Classes
tend to start between 10am and 11am, evening classes either at 5pm or 7pm.
Every class will be 2 hours long. If you would like to attend two 2 hour classes a day then this
can usually be arranged. Please contact us for more details.
All classes will be taught in Chinese. Every class will be attended by Lu Yan,
and her assistant will help with translation into English when necessary,
although in general the amount of translation required will be minimal. If you
require a full time translator then please see the
Accommodation and Care Services section for their
rates.
Note that the Wushu styles listed here are not a full list of what she can
teach. If the style you want to learn is not listed here then
contact us.

Traditionally
all martial arts training in China was done outside, but modern Wushu really does need a safer environment.
All our training is done at the Chaoyang District Children's Sports Centre in Hong Miao, by the East 4th ring road in Beijing.
This centre has a dedicated Wushu facility with a Wushu carpet (ditan).
In order to book this facility we generally require several weeks notice before your
arrival date. If your timescales are tighter than this then we will still be
able to book a training location but we cannot guarantee that it will have a Wushu
ditan.
If you have any specific training requirements (e.g. you particularly want to
train Taiji outside for example) then we can always arrange this for you.
Either way, we ask that you give us at least a couple of weeks notice so that we can secure
a location and let you know if Lu Yan is available.

Our speciality is providing world class Wushu training. We want the rest of your
stay in Beijing to be as exceptional as the training Lu Yan can provide you. To
this end we have located affordable and convenient accommodation right next to
the training venue, and local restaurants that can provide good quality Chinese meals for the duration of
your visit.
We can help you organise the following:
- Airport pick ups and drop offs
- 3 Star Hotel accommodation right next to the training venue
- Cheap but quality Chinese meals every day
The Hotel rooms themselves are fairly spacious, and when possible we may ask for
you to share rooms. The maximum number of people in any room will be two. If you
specifically want separate rooms then this can be arranged. Please
contact us for more details.
We realise that not everyone has the same needs, so we have teamed up with a
Chinese Tour operator who can offer you additional services. These services are:
- A selection of Tours, including trips around Beijing or to The Great Wall
- Translation Services
These additional Care Services are tailored to each individual's requirements.
During the application process you can
specify exactly what you want or do not want us to organise for you. You can
always add to these services when you arrive in Beijing.
The only items that you will have to organise yourself are your Visa, your
Insurance and your flights.
Visas can either be organised by the individual or by the use of an agent. Each
country will have its own guidelines on Visa application submission, please
check with your home country's Chinese Embassy for more details (the
Links page has several sites that should help with this).
Cheap flights to Beijing are also now easily found, with most airlines doing
seasonal deals. There are now hundreds of internet sites specialising in cheap
flights.
If you would like more information about the Chinese Tour company, or have any
further questions about the Care Services offered then please first consult the
Frequently Asked Questions page. If your question is still not answered then
please contact us.
On the Links page we have tried to provide a
selection of internet sites that may help you with your arrangements.

The Insurance Industry in China is still very much in its infancy. Although it
is possible to buy Insurance in China it is highly recommended that you buy
Insurance in your home country.
When arranging your Insurance ensure that Wushu or Martial Arts training is
covered in your package. Most companies will cover you okay as long as you are
not competing. Simply coming over to China for a holiday to train Wushu should
be covered by most packages okay.
Also ensure that your Insurance is valid in China. It is also often the case
that Insurance is only valid for certain countries. Hence if you arrange a
Worldwide Insurance you should be covered in China okay. This is much better
organised outside of China before coming over.
We will expect you to produce a valid Insurance Certificate before entering into
training with Lu Yan.

We try to be flexible in our costs, attempting to make Lu Yan’s training as
accessible as possible to everyone. We understand that the costs of getting to
Beijing can often be expensive, so try to incorporate this fact into our
costing. We also want to ensure that Lu Yan gets a fair price for her time, so
that both parties are happy with the arrangement.
All costs are given in Chinese Renminbi (RMB or CNY). Click here for a
currency conversion site.
Tuition Costs
Lu Yan's tuition costs lower as more people join in the class. The guideline costs for 1 hour of tuition are as follows:
|
| Number of people | Cost per person (RMB) |
| 1 | 250 |
| 2 | 170 |
| 3 | 140 |
| 4 | 120 |
| More | Contact us |
|
We may not always be able to provide one on one tuition, this depends on whether we already have students
booked in for the same time period.
Accommodation Costs
Accommodation costs vary according to whether you are prepared to share or not, and also with the time of year.
Generally a budget hotel room will cost between 200RMB and 250RMB per night, depending on the duration of your
stay (longer stay, cheaper rate). Each room has two beds so can accommodate two people, hence making the cost per
person from as little as 100RMB per night.
Food Costs
We have also got a good relationship with several of the restaurants in the local area. If required we can help you
arrange food for as little as 30RMB per day (3 meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner) which is very good value.
The most economical way to train with Lu Yan is to come as a group. That way you
can share the cost of the training and accommodation, lowering the per day fees. Group classes are
always more fun too. Training one on one is tiring both for the coach and the
student, and the added benefit of this type of training when compared to say 4
people training together is often minimal.
Once training for the day is over you can then as a group go and explore the
many historical and cultural sites that Beijing has to offer.
Care Service Costs
Our additional Care Services have variable costs depending on what service you
require. The guideline costs for these services are laid out below:
|
| Care Service Description | Cost (RMB) |
| Translation Service | 200 per day |
| Trips - Within Beijing | 200 half day |
| Trips - Outside Beijing |

|
Please note that all costs are provided as estimates only and depend on
availability. After filling out the Application Form
the final costs for your trip can be derived.
|

We believe that Lu Yan can offer you Wushu training that is second to none.
Our flexibility in our Care Services and fees allow you to decide exactly how
you want to run your holiday.
Our aim is to give you the training and the holiday that you want.
The application process itself is straight forward but should be carried out in
a specific order.
To apply to train with Lu Yan, you will first need to make the following
decisions:
- Decide when you would like to come, and for how long e.g. May for 2 weeks
- Decide what style you would like to train e.g. Jian Shu
- Decide if there are any additional services that you require e.g. Great Wall
Trip
Once decided, you should contact us. We will
then be able to tell you whether Lu Yan is available, and give you an
approximate cost for your chosen training.
Once this initial stage has been completed you should fill out an
Application Form. At this stage we will provisionally book Lu Yan's time for
the duration of your stay.
Once your application has been accepted, you will need to provide a
non-refundable 20% deposit. This will be used to secure Lu Yan for your training
and book your training location etc.
The rest of your training fee will be required upon arrival at your first class.
If you have any further questions about coming to Beijing to train with Lu Yan
then please first consult the Frequently Asked Questions
page. If your question is still unanswered then please
contact us. We will be glad to answer any questions that you may have.
